About "Dear"
17-year old Eric's world changes when a strange physical transformation accompanies his developing connection with a secret pen-pal. Although his parents tolerate his differences, do they truly accept him for who he is, and does he accept himself?
"Dear" explores the experience of trying—and failing—to hide your true self from those you care about. This ten-minute short speaks to the relationship between romantic love, community, difference, and self-discovery. Much like the majority of young queer and neurodiverse people, Eric cannot hide his differences from the unwelcoming people around him. All he can do is try to navigate his own developing identity.
Help Us Tell Our Story
Our film is low-budget, but that doesn't mean NO budget. While a lot of our props and costumes come from our own homes, we need funding to create the practical effects that will add to Eric's unique appearance! Funds will also be used for a few unique prop pieces, feeding our cast and crew, behind-the-scenes documentation, recording original music, and festival entry fees after the film is completed.
Representation is so important for young queer and neurodiverse individuals, many of whom report feeling isolated or experiencing depression. "Dear" seeks to showcase the feeling of sticking out no matter how hard you try to fit in. If you can relate, this is your opportunity to support media created for you!
What's in it for me?
ALL contributors will have the opportunity of being thanked in the credits, as well as being among the first to screen the film before its premiere!
I can't donate, what can I do?
You can SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!!! We understand that many of our supporters are young queer and diverse art-lovers, much like ourselves. However, our art cannot thrive without the support of you, and your family members and friends! Any additional exposure we can get will be hugely beneficial to telling this story.
