Death & Co Staff Relief Fund
Now mandated in New York, Denver, and Los Angeles, the COVID-19 crisis has forced our company to close our Death & Co venues. The people most affected by this are our employees -- the 130 people who strive for excellence every day, who welcome our guests with genuine hospitality, and who make excellent cocktails and delicious food. The majority of these incredible humans have been laid off, and while unemployment will provide some level of support, it will not be enough. While we want nothing more than to rehire every single one of them as soon as possible, the coming weeks will present huge financial challenges for all -- not just in paying their rent and grocery bills, but the inevitable expenses of health care. While our company is committed to continuing supplement health insurance up until April 30th (and hopefully beyond), there are members of our team who are uninsured. For this reason, we are seeking the assistance of our community in the creation and building of an emergency fund.
To make the process as transparent as possible, we’ve asked seven key employees (two from NY, two from LA and three from Denver) to join together in a committee to oversee the funds and decide how they are distributed. We will give them the support they need and suggest a structure for governance, but will leave all decision making to them. Funds will be transferred to the parent company's (Gin & Luck LLC) bank account and distributed based solely on the decision of the D&C staff committee. At the conclusion of this crisis, if funds are still available, the committee will solicitthe staff for use of the funds. No funds will remain in the parent company's account.
We will continue to share all aspects of this initiative and any other with our hospitality peers should they seek to do the same -- for more information, email Alex Day at [email redacted].
Additionally, everyone who donates will get our weekly newsletter with home bartending tips and tricks, special discounts on our retail marketplace, and a D&C gift card for donations of $100 or more to be redeemed at any D&C location when we reopen.
Please consider donating any sum that you’re able. We have a commitment from our largest investor to match funds up to $10,000. We will continue this fundraiser as long as our team is in need - until the COVID-19 crisis subsides and we’re able to re-open our businesses.
Cheers!
