Help the family of a Scowler smile once again
On 3/25, my stepfather Charles Milburn passed away unexpectedly (yet very peacefully) in his sleep, leaving my mother and his wife of 21 years to deal with the house, car, bills, etc. After two weeks or so of mourning and waiting for his death certificate to come in (which at time of writing STILL hasn't arrived due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so we can't do anything with his various life insurance policies) we started going through his finances.
What we found was a mess much larger than expected as the mortgage on their home didn't have a death insurance policy, so she's on the hook with a monthly payment of $400+ for a mortgage with $65,000 left.
There's also $320 monthly car payment with about $2300 left, not to mention the $3,000 or so on a mountain of credit cards.
After that, and adding in the monthly bills and other various items her monthly social security payment isn't going to cut it, and after his life insurance comes in the monthly payments STILL wouldn't cut it.
I would just like her not to worry about it, this was their dream home when they moved in November of last year and for her to end up having to lose it after her beloved's death would be too much for her.
