Debbie Ashford’s Journey With ALS…
One year ago, Debbie suffered from what was diagnosed as a mild stroke. Questions and concerns continued to arise and we pursued more answers. In July 2020, Debbie was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. This disease causes the death of neurons that control voluntary muscles and steals a piece of people's loved ones, one day at a time. It takes strength and courage to face the daily challenges and the battle changes often as the disease progresses. For those lucky enough to know Debbie, you know she is a FIGHTER.
All would agree that she is a force to be reckoned with. She is a force of humor, a force of kindness, a force of immeasurable grace and love for all in her life. A wife, a mother, a grandmother, sister and friend, Debbie has always been first on the scene for those who have needed help. Whether that need be large or small, she has always been there. With Debbie on your side, nothing is impossible. Until recently, this is the way she lived every day of her life. She is one of the strongest people you will meet. She continues to rely on this strength during her time of need.
Many of you have already stepped up and joined our fight and brought us meals, walked our dogs, sent a note or have been a shoulder to cry on. We are so appreciative of this support. Unfortunately, we need more help. The financial cost of caring for someone plagued with this disease is enormous. The goal of her medical treatment is to manage symptoms, increase quality of life and make the most of our time together.
The funds generated here will help Debbie and her family as she faces the challenge of her life. These funds will go towards offsetting the tremendous cost of tending to Debbie and her family’s needs including necessary treatment, therapy, in-home support and palliative care.
THANK YOU so much for your love and support of our family during this unexpected journey we are on. We truly appreciate each and every one of you…
