Debby Deserves to Smile (help her get dentures)

Hello, you can call me Gabby. My grandmother is the type of person who helped everyone (and she continues to do so). She survived hardship throughout all her life, starting in her childhood. She has always looked out for others; stood up for those who could not stand up for themselves. Her children’s friends would frequently stay in her home when they were experiencing abuse or food insecurity, and she’s been a nurse for decades.

Her downfall is that she has always put others before herself. Neglecting her own needs has left her very sick, she even lost her home trying to help my parents. To be completely honest, her community has abandoned her. Her family has taken her for granted, and I am financially unable to give her a fraction of what she has earned throughout her life.

 Getting dentures would allow her to eat food that will prolong her life, and health. The issue is that she has gone so long without, that there isn’t enough gum tissue for cheap ones. She needs the implants, but we can’t afford them. She tries not to let it bother her, or stop her, but it hurts me to watch. This is one more thing on top of an ever growing pile that chips away at her, and she doesn’t even deserve it.

 She deserves a home. She deserves dignity. She deserves to be able to smile, without feeling ashamed. She should not have to struggle to survive on disability or scrape together money for treatment. She should be able to live her final stages of life with the same security she has given to countless others. She does not deserve to become another sad story when she dies. She does not deserve to be an example of a good person being taken advantage of and then dying unappreciated.
