Debbie Foster has been in medical care since the end of August and has been fighting for her life.

Debbie had a freak of an accident back in August, 2018. She was at her granddaughter’s bridal shower and fell as a heavy church door slammed into her ankle and severed her Achilles Tendon. Debbie had surgery immediately, and within that same week had an infection in her ankle.

From there she was at West Campus in Mason City, she was on antibiotics to fight the infection, which was now sepsis for the next few months (until November). Being on the antibiotics caused her not to eat and have rapid weight loss.

Debbie in the middle of November was taken to the ER for what she thought was a UTI – and ended up being a heart attack. Debbie was placed in the ICU with a less than 10% chance to live. Debbie spent Christmas and the holidays in the critical care unit. Friends and family trying to stay positive as Debbie fought – and she did! Debbie was in the critical care unit for the next month. Debbie was in an induced medical coma from December to beginning of January.

They slowly began to wake Debbie, and then put her back down again as her heart could not keep up. But they kept trying. Finally, it worked! Debbie was given a trachea to help with the healing processes and from there was transferred to Des Moines for 23 days.

Debbie is currently at the IOOF Home in Mason city. She is working to gain her strength and ability to use her hands and to learn to walk again. Debbie's Medicare ran out and is faced with a $6000 bill she must pay for at the end of the month in cash. If she has to continue to stay at the IOOF Home for therapy it will cost her $6000 for each month thereafter.  We are hopeful she will return home within the next month – to 2 months.

Let’s get Debbie back at home with her husband Bill! Debbie has not seen her house since the end of August – it’s time she gets back and enjoying life again!

If you know Debbie, you know she would do anything for anyone. Now she needs help. We all miss her laugh and the joy she brings to our lives, let’s get Debbie home! Any little bit you can contribute would be greatly appreciated.

IF you would like to visit or send Debbie a card she is at the IOOF Home.
