Please help Debbie get her freedom back

Hi, my name is Hayley. I'm raising funds for my mum, Debbie.

Back in November 2024, my mum had an accident on her bicycle, and she was seriously injured as a result of this. Her knee was badly damaged, three out of the four ligaments that hold a knee together were completely snapped, and the remaining one was very stretched. Debbie had a seven hour surgery to repair her knee, 5 weeks after the initial injury. This went well, and the slow road to recovery began.

It's been two months since surgery, and whilst Debbie has managed to regain a small amount of mobility with the aid of crutches and a wheelchair, she is left only being able to leave the house with the support of another person. Anyone who knows Debbie will know that this is almost torturous for her, she hasn't been able to go to work, walk her dogs, visit her grandchildren, exercise or take part in any leisure activities for over three months, all things that she regularly partook in before her accident. Recovery from the injuries that Debbie sustained could take as much as 12 months.

We have looked into hiring a mobility scooter, however this has proven to be impossible. This is due to all scooter hire companies being entwined with people who claim PIP. Debbie isn't entitled to claim PIP or any other kind of support until her condition has been affecting her mobility for over 12 months.

We are hoping to raise enough money to purchase a mobility scooter that has all terrain capabilities, to enable Debbie to regain some freedom and independence, to be able to get out and walk the dogs, and drive on the grass to clean up after them. We would also like to get a secure shed for storage of the scooter, as getting it inside is out of the question due to there being multiple steps up to the house.
