Last week, this smile vanished. The Dectective's knock on the door to deliver the news that Rick was found in his rig at a truck stop in Orange, Texas took it away. They suspected a heart attack, but an autopsy had to be performed.
Tybeenians remember Rick and Deb as the duo that provided music to Tybee's fund raisers and Hell raisers for many years. Going back to the old DeSoto days, they entertained us by night and worked in our community by day. Rick probably repaired your air conditioner; Deb may have cleaned your condo. When asked they always brought the musical talent needed to make any fund raiser a success.
They moved to Townsend five years ago, but still have deep roots on Tybee. Lynn & Gus Cowart and kids are Debbie's family on our island, and the friends who hold her near to their heart are too many to count.
She needs our help now. Rick was the breadwinner while Debbie tended hearth and home. The pay check stopped last week, but the expenses go on.
Being the strong woman she is, Debbie will find her way, but right now, we need to help her through the transitional time while expenses continue (including the costs associated with a death in Texas, with cremation and transport home and a fitting memorial for Rick).
She is hurting now, and needs to have time to grieve and come to grips with her great loss without having to worry about the mortgage and utilities, and insurance and all the other bills that must be paid.
Let's help her now, as she and Rick helped us when we tapped them to play at some event.. or when we went to the DeSoto looking for a good time. We were never disappointed.
