A loving, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Debbie was diagnosed in December 2019 with multiple myeloma, a rare blood cancer that caused kidney failure.
I will let you know how you can help in a minute, first let me share how Multiple Myeloma effects the body.
With Multiple Myeloma malignant plasma cells accumulate in the bone marrow (the soft, spongy tissue at the center of your bones), they crowd out normal plasma cells that help fight infection.
The malignant plasma cells produce an abnormal antibody called M protein; they offer no benefit to the body.
This M protein may cause tumors, kidney damage, bone destruction, and impaired immune function.
Multiple Myeloma is rarely curable; however, with a lifetime of chemotherapy it can be managed.
Here is how you can help…
As a state worker (DCP&P), when you run out of sick days you must pay for medical coverage yourself.
As of February, the cost for Debbie to continue her health insurance is over $1,250 a month, this does not include medications, co-pays, gas, tolls and countless other expenses.
Debbie went from working, babysitting her grandchildren and hanging out with friends, to chemotherapy twice a week and kidney dialysis three times a week.
