Memorial service for our mom, Deborah fitzgerald
Donation protected
It is with heavy and saddened hearts that we have to make this fundraiser. 2024 was not off to a good start for our family. January 2nd our mom had a stroke with a big blood clot on the left side of her brain. United Regional sent her to UTSouthwestern, there we spent 10 days to do all the work up to possibly get answers. Within those 10 days she had had multiple strokes on both sides of her brain. Although medically cleared on the 13th she was left un able to walk or communicate.
She was transferred to Encompass Rehab to endure on what we thought was going to be a long recovery. She was there until February 1rst and moved to Advanced rehab, after being there for almost 2 weeks she became very ill. The NP ran lab work, her kidney levels were extremely elevated along with her white blood cell count. They sent her to the Emergency Room she showed signs of severe kidney damage, with sepsis. Her fingers and toes started turning purple while in triage and her O2 blood level dropped significantly. They intubated our mom as a precaution so she could get enough oxygen to her brain and sent up to ICU. They did an MRI and it had shown new strokes effecting once again both sides of her brain. Doctors then spoke with us on the severity of it all. Our moms brain activity was slim and her airways were conflicted. They explained if she were to wake up she’d have to have a trach and peg and she would need to be on dialysis. We spoke with Palliative care and made the decision to do comfort and care for her. With everything happening so suddenly and our mom not having any life insurance this is something my sister and I weren’t prepared for. She’s being monitored currently at United regional through hospice. We most likely will be here until she takes that last breath and gains her wings. We know everybody has their own struggles so please don’t feel obligated, but if you could any donation would help and be so appreciated even if it’s a dollar, love, thoughts, or prayers. Thank you.
