Deborah Proctor Medical Fund
Donation protected
The Proctor Family is asking for donations to assist in the care of Deborah “Peanut” Proctor. In October 2014, Deborah had a 9 hour surgery to repair her aorta. It was a massive undertaking involving 7 different surgeons with a minimal chance of survival. This surgery was performed knowing that she had a zero chance of survival if she did not have the surgery.
She had a stroke of the spinal cord during surgery resulting in paralysis of both legs and her left arm. Doctors gave her a conservative timeline of 6 months to live. At this point, she had no other medical options and chose to embark on a natural/holistic medicinal path once she arrived home from the hospital recovery, still on a ventilator and other bodily assistance equipment. After 6 months of at home care, Deborah no longer needed the ventilator but continued to use a feeding tube. At her 6 month follow up appointment, the doctor was completely shocked by the progress she had made and how well she was doing. Since he did not want to put the “alternative methods” being used into her chart, his advice was to keep doing what you’re doing because it was clearly working to keep her alive.
She returned home to continue her treatment of natural and holistic medicines and remedies such as acupuncture and other homeopathic suggestions. She was able to resume normal feeding a few months later and is currently still diligently on her regimen.
At this point, her sisters were rotating out every 2 weeks to care for her at her home. In November of 2015, her younger sister Shirley closed the hair salon she owned for over 12 years so she could care for her sister on a full-time basis. How ironic that Deborah undertook a similar calling 15 years prior when she quit her job to take care of their mother, under similar circumstances, and losing her retirement in the process. The decision was made to move Deborah up to Shirley’s home in West Florida.
Donations will go towards purchasing a handicap accessible van to assist with her transportation to and from health care visits, ongoing and increasing health care costs, and obtain at home assistance to lighten the burden of her sister.
Deborah is still in good spirits and has lived many years beyond any doctor’s most liberal approximations. While she has no children of her own, she has been a light and inspiration to countless others that have known her.
