Debo's emergency vet bills and medications
Donation protected
In the early hours of July 4th, my boyfriend and I returned home from a cookout.
When we came inside, we immediately noticed something wasn't right with our dog, Debo.
Not only was he very lethargic, but he also had difficulty keeping his balance and refused to eat.
Eventually, he threw up two times, and that's when we knew it was time to rush him to our nearest emergency vet hospital.
After several tests, blood work, etc., we found out what exactly he had gotten into.
He was diagnosed with acetaminophen poisoning and was given a 7 step antidote over a few days.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the only thing he had to deal with.
One of the side effects of acetaminophen poisoning is the lack of red blood cells, which leads to a lack of oxygen. This also caused his face and paws to swell up, leading to more discomfort.
The acetaminophen poisoning also caused superficial eye ulcers in both eyes.
He was then put on four different medications to treat these ulcers.
By Wednesday afternoon, he was improving, and the doctors felt he was ready to come home.
My boyfriend continued his medication as usual into Thursday morning. However, we soon noticed some concerning signs.
Such as lack of appetite and excessive drinking of water.
We called the vet again because he threw up one of his liver medications.
They told us to bring him back to the emergency room as soon as possible.
The plan was to redo all the previous tests to ensure there wasn't anything else affecting him. As well as perform an ultrasound to get a look at his stomach.
Friday evening, we were told that nothing of concern came up on his tests. But, they would still like to monitor him through Saturday just in case something comes up.
Of course, this whole ordeal has not been inexpensive. Thankfully I've had enough money saved up to cover this for now. However, we need some help recouping our finances.
Even if you're not in a position to donate, just sharing our story would be more than enough.
Debo's outcome is looking good as of now, so long as he takes his medications and gets regular checkups for the time being.
We are incredibly grateful for any help we can receive from all of you.
And if we surpass our goal, any remaining donations will be directly donated to the emergency vet treating Debo.
