In the wake of the unexpected passing of Declan Ellard on 21st March, a man of immense kindness and irreplaceable presence, our family reaches out for your support. Declan, unbelievably generous and loving, was truly one of a kind. Despite facing significant health challenges in his final years, including over two decades of managing diabetes, which eventually led to kidney and heart failure, Declan remained a beacon of light in our lives. Known for his boundless energy and zest for life, the last 18 months were particularly challenging. Yet, Declan never lost his optimistic outlook, embodying a 'glass half full' mentality with his enduring belief in 'always tomorrow.'

For me, Declan was more than just a part of our family, he was a true father figure. Blessed with two incredible individuals I proudly call dad, I often found myself in amusing situations trying to explain our unique bond to others. Declan's unwavering support and guidance were my constants. He possessed an unparalleled ability to listen, advise, and uplift. Our conversations, ranging from the mundane to the profound, were treasures I will hold close. His wisdom, humour, and perspective helped shape me into the person I am today. It deeply saddens me that he won’t be here to meet his soon to be born grandchild, a moment I had looked forward to knowing he would have such a positive impact with his grandchild like he did with me.

As we navigate this difficult time, we aim to arrange a funeral that honours Declan's spirited and incredible life, reflecting the remarkable person he was, without placing an undue financial burden on his partner Terry and the family. This loss has hit Terry especially hard.

We've set up this fund hoping to unite friends, family, and even kind strangers touched by Declan’s story to contribute to giving him the farewell he unequivocally deserves. Your support will help cover funeral expenses and assist Terry in managing the financial aftermath of Declan's passing.
