Deconstruction of Canberra Indoor Rock Climbing
Donation protected
Dear Members of the Canberra Climbing Community and Local Communities,
We hope this message finds you well.
CIRC has had the privilege of being a tenant at the Mitchell location for over 25 years, following our time at Kingston and Hume. Over the years, we have become an integral part of the local community, supporting a wide range of charities, youth groups, sporting clubs, and, of course, our own climbing community. Our commitment has been to help countless individuals, and this would not have been possible without your support.
It is with deep regret that we now inform you of a situation that may lead to the closure of the gym. This decision comes from the landlord, who has expressed a desire to repurpose the space for another tenant. While I have done everything in my power to keep the gym open, I am not the landlord and must respect his decision.
We are incredibly grateful to those of you who have signed the petition, lending your voices to our cause. Your support has meant the world to us. Unfortunately, despite our collective efforts, the landlord has chosen not to renew the lease, and we are now facing the difficult task of closing the gym.
This is a situation I never imagined facing, and it deeply saddens me. My goal has always been to serve the climbing community, not to profit personally from the business. However, as we now close this chapter, we need your help more than ever.
The process of dismantling the gym and fulfilling our commitments comes with significant costs, and I kindly ask for your support as we navigate this transition. We will cease operations on January 30th, 2025, and must vacate the premises by February 28th, 2025.
Starting on January 31st, we will begin removing holds and features, and contractors will begin their work on February 3rd, 2025.
Any contributions, big or small, even a small donation would be greatly appreciated. The donation link will be available on our Facebook and Instagram pages help us manage these costs during this challenging time.
Thank you once again for your unwavering support throughout the years. It has been an honour to be a part of this incredible community, and we are so grateful for all the memories and connections we've made along the way.
Warm regards,
Gordon Kelly and staff
