Deco's Leukemia Fight
Donation protected
Riggs & Deco are classmates and cancer buddies. Deco was diagnosed with ALL just one week after Riggs was. Please help this sweet family the way you all so generously helped us out. They have had no financial assistance to help them through this. Thank you in advance!
Deco is a boy of just 5 years old, who at his young age is a fighter against cancer, he is the youngest brother of 4 siblings. Deco is a happy, kind, sweet boy with so much desire to continue living.
In October 2022, Deco had a series of high temperatures that at home we could not stop. That was when he was admitted to the Emergency Room of the local hospital, from there he was transferred to Omaha, NE where we were given his diagnosis: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (Leukemia ALL). His treatments have been a lot of chemotherapy, lumbar infusions, as well as a lot of medication at home.
After a month of starting his treatment, Deco stopped walking due to the intensity of the medication. His hair fell out; he was nauseous and vomiting constantly. This forced us as a family to separate. I had to stay in Omaha, to take care of Deco. Traveling back and forth was impossible. At that time, Deco was only 3 years old and my husband stayed in Columbus to take care of our other 3 children, ages 12, 10, and 9 years old, and to continue working because it was not an option to stop doing so since this impacted our finances and bills had to be paid. We found ourselves having to ask for money from family and friends.
It's been 18 months since Deco's diagnosis and now Deco is happy again, he loves to draw, paint with watercolors, and play with clay. His hair has grown, he is already running and this is his act of bravery. He no longer cries when they pinch him for labs or chemotherapy, because now every time he visits the clinic he tells me: "Mommy, I don't want to die, that's why I'm brave and I don't cry because I know that when they take me to the clinic, they take me for life for me."
Deco is our hero, he is hope, he is faith and a great fighter against this small 6-letter word: CANCER, but such a great battle and a great weight for those who suffer from it.
Please consider helping the Espiritu Family lessen the burden of financial stress since having their son, Deco, diagnosed with Leukemia.
