Dee Knodel Cancer Benefit

Dee Knodel is a wonderful woman with a loving husband and two girls who are both married and have given her 4 grandchildren to look forward to seeing grow up. She has had so many plans yet and isn’t ready to sign her life away over what is being called, the most rarest form of lymphoma. This reared its ugly head only 3 1/2 short months ago. It was alarming at how fast it was initially spreading!
Large T Cell Anaplastic Lymphoma, ALK-negative they call it. Of all the forms of this disease, her’s is one that is only about 1-2% of all cases. Sadly, it’s also one of the most dangerous and rapidly spreading forms one can get with many complications from the disease and from the treatments necessary.
Since it is so rare, not many cancer clinics even have experience with it and the options are very limited. High dose chemo is the main one and since it’s on the side of her neck, it negates the use of radiation, surgery or just about any other treatment due to the location to her saliva glands, arteries, and brain. The worse part, the historical success rates in treating this have been around the 30% range.
All that said, not more than a couple months ago, the FDA approved a new drug that is being added and the outlook is more promising but regardless, it’s still a very high dose of chemotherapy that
is needed to kill cancer. With that, it’s also necessary to have a stem cell transplant. Not to aide in killing the disease, but to save the patient from the deadly effects of that much chemical, which also attacks all the organs and can end up being a terminal threat to her.
Dee really wants to survive and she’s had many things she’s been looking forward to in her life. The main issue is the mounting costs, which are already staggering. We sure want her to have whatever it takes with the possibility of being cured. It’s such a gamble but this is where YOU can help.
The money raised will help cover these costs:
1. Chemotherapy, nearly $38,000.00 per treatment with 6 scheduled with more possible
2. Stem Cell Transplant, which could cost upwards from $350,000.00 to $800,000.00!
3. Rehabilitation Expenses.
4. Living Expenses, as her husband’s income, won’t cover the home mortgage and insurance alone.
5. Future Travel Expenses as the stem cell transplant will be done somewhere else in the country that we haven’t been informed of yet.
6. Additional Medications and treatments if it becomes necessary.
7. Additional Surgical Procedures, like putting in the chemo port and others that may occur due to any complications. Even a simple cold virus or a foodborne germ can be deadly and could require some sort of emergency care.
Yes, she has health care insurance, but that only covers some of the main portions of the treatments. The bottom line is without your help, it will be impossible for Dee to concentrate on beating this deadly disease. Like so many others, your gift is what makes the difference!
