The Bad News:( Many of you have no idea that I’ve been battling a chronic illness for the majority of my life. It was not until recently that I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease, which is typically a tick borne illness. If caught early on, normally, treatment is pretty promising. With a recent clinical diagnosis, it is believed that I have had Lyme disease since the onset of some of my first symptoms as a teenager. If Lyme Disease is not caught early, it spreads throughout the body and can disrupt the function of all bodily systems. I have about 30-60 different symptoms that all seem to point to Lyme Disease wreaking havoc on my body over the years.
Being diagnosed recently by blood work(attached document) in addition to my symptoms it is believed that I am in the late stages of chronic Lyme Disease. Some of the more concerning symptoms I have include neurological symptoms, including the decline of being able to use the left side of my body. This includes left facial paralysis, numbness/loss of movement of the left side of the tongue and loss of coordination/numbness of my left leg. How am I? It is not uncommon in late stage Lyme Disease to have permanent nerve damage, meaning paralysis or complete loss of function is possible without treatment. Seeing that I am losing the ability to use my tongue and left leg, I fear that I may lose the ability to use my left leg and tongue altogether. In addition recently I’ve woken up mid sleep to my right foot being completely numb, which has increased my fears of possibly losing the ability to use both of my lower extremities. With the increasing cardiac symptoms, I also face daily fears over the progression of Lyme Carditis becoming fatal.
In many ways I have hope. I have to say this is one of the most humbling things I’ve ever done in my life. Though, in many ways I have been open with my life, being in need is probably the thing that I am the least confidant in. God has lead me on journey with many twists and turns that have lead to an accurate diagnosis, so with that diagnosis I can finally name the unnamed illness I’ve been carrying for two decades. I have hope because as I hear testimonies of those with Lyme Disease, this treatment is very minuscule in cost compared to what others have had to fork out with incorrect diagnoses. Most of all I am hopeful, because The Maker of All Things has told me that this is my season of healing and restoration.
The Good News!:) If I receive treatment, the Lyme Disease load can be greatly decreased from my body and my functionality has a great chance of improving again. I’m looking at a 6 month treatment plan to kill off Lyme Disease which is where I need your help to beat this!
Why I need Your Help! The last seven years, specifically, my symptoms increased to a level where I had to cut my work all together at times or to just 10-20 hours a week. With this being said, I’ve been barely getting by and I’m not sure that I’ll be able to cover the six months of initial treatment as outlined by my Naturopathic doctor. The cost is relatively low(but high for me) which includes antibiotics, prescribed supplements, treatment plan to increase nerve functionality and a couple of integrative therapies that are not included under my insurance plan.
Prayer They do say Lyme is not curable, but I do believe that God can heal. If you can join me in praying for complete healing from Lyme Disease. There is a reaction known as herxheimer's, where symptoms can increase once antibiotics start (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jarisch–Herxheimer_reaction). Prayer that these symptoms will be as minimal as possible and that I will be able to make it to treatment throughout the possible increase of my symptoms. I also need to heal from some wounds from others during this process. Sometimes people can say really careless things in times of hardship and I’ve experienced this. This has been a greater wound than my actual illness. If you can pray that I forgive those who have hurt me completely and that God will also allow this to be a season of much needed emotional and spiritual healing. Last, while God is a Healer, He does use medicine to heal His Children as well. Prayer for these financial needs to be met for 6 months of treatment.
Summary I saw this quote today by Timothy Keller, “Real work is a contribution to the good of all and not merely a means to one’s advancement.” At my worst, when I would sleep 14-18 hours a day and I literally felt like the life within me was leaving my body, I was forced to think about some heavy things. In that time God began to show me what really matters and it has very little to do with myself. So my hope here, is not that I get treatment so my hands can continue to work towards self gain, but that I can finish The Work The Lord has set out for me for the good of others.
