Help Defend Carl Kemppainen

This fundraiser is to aid in covering legal expenses that have struck my family after surviving the failed robbery of my store last year. I was at work when two gang members high on drugs robbed the store, assaulted me, and threatened to shoot me. Fearing for the lives of my employees and customers I struggled with one of the criminals, and subdued him. Unfortunately the man did not make it, likely due to the combination of opiates and benzodiazepines in his system.

Myself and others called 911 immediately but the police did not respond in time to help stop the robbery, or to revive the unconscious thief. It was surreal, and I went to the police station and told exactly what happened to the detectives. But it was too late. The news had taken hold of the story and was instigating racial tension. Social media exploded with threats of riots and burning buildings and looting. The DA bowed to demands by race agitators, and appeased them by filing a charge of murder. A press conference was held where he said, "Make no mistake. It is law enforcement's job to do the policing".

Perhaps this could have been avoided if those words were true, as this criminal was in fact locked in a jail cell just days before. But multiple warrants, aggravated robberies, high speed police chases, and active gang ties did matter. They released him and he immediately went on a final crime spree, victimizing the community. He was ready to kill in order to stay on his drug fueled path of destruction. I just wanted to make it home to my wife.

The trial in this case is coming very soon, and more than money, I need prayer. I don't think we will reach the goal before time runs out, but God will multiply what is given and bless it to be sufficient.
