Defibrillator access to all park football pitches

Hello, I'm reaching out as a member of SF7 in the Bracknell Sunday League. On the morning of Sunday, December 3rd, our team gathered at Braybrooke for what we anticipated to be a routine premier division game against AFC Dukes. Little did we know that the day would unfold with a life-altering event.

Approximately 30 minutes into the match, our friend and teammate Doug collapsed on the field, without a pulse. In an instant, the 22 players on the pitch, along with the referee, substitutes, and spectators, united in a life-saving effort. Mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and chest compressions were administered by players from both teams, showcasing the remarkable solidarity within the football community.

The awareness of a defibrillator located less than 300 yards away was swiftly obtained as players sprinted to retrieve the device. Miraculously, the defibrillator played a pivotal role in reviving Doug, bringing him back to life on the pitch.

This incident prompted reflection on the remaining Bracknell district. It has come to our attention that two pitches, namely Ringmead in Great Hollands and Wildridings, lack access to a defibrillator. Given that these pitches are utilized on a weekly basis, it raises concerns about the potential consequences if a similar situation were to occur in these locations.

We believe that every pitch within the Bracknell district should be equipped with this life-saving device, ensuring the safety of not only footballers but also the general public. The incident at Braybrooke serves as a reminder of the vital role defibrillators play in emergencies, and it compels us to push for their availability should it be required.

We understand the financial implications of such an initiative, but we request support from the community. Any contribution, no matter how small, would go a long way in providing access to defibrillators for pitches like Ringmead in Great Hollands, Wildridings and further access across the Bracknell borough.

Our collective efforts can make a significant impact on the well-being of individuals participating in sports and other community activities in the Bracknell area.

We extend our gratitude to those who have already been instrumental in Doug's rescue and recovery. Our goal is to ensure that every pitch becomes a safe and prepared space for all, minimising the potential for tragic outcomes in unforeseen circumstances.
