Degeberg family during Jake’s recovery

I am making this GoFundMe for my daughter and son in law, Jake. On Tuesday October 3rd Jake was brought to the emergency room and had to have emergency surgery. It was discovered that he had a very bad infection throughout most of his abdomen and pelvis. He was also severely septic, and without the surgery or being brought in it’s expected he wouldn’t have survived. He had seen doctors previously but was misdiagnosed as having a hematoma and was told that rest would likely help. However, the surgeon believes that his appendix had previously burst or had a tear which caused the infection. He will need another surgery to remove his appendix in the near future.

He’s been in the hospital since and has been receiving strong antibiotics. Unfortunately, the antibiotics have started effecting his kidneys. A normal creatinine level is .7-1.3 and his is currently 5.3. He had to start dialysis on Saturday October 7th to hopefully help his kidneys and avoid kidney failure. It is currently unknown how long he will be in the hospital. Following his discharge he will be unable to work for at least 3-4 weeks and is looking at a months long recovery. Kayla will also need to take some time off work to take him to medical appointments and help him with wound care while also caring for their three young kids.

All money raised will go towards helping with bills and household expenses as Jake does not have paid time off or short term disability.
