Bread of Life Building Project

Tax deductible

The city of Fort Payne, once known as the "Sock Capital of the World", has seen its fair share of hardships since much of its industry closed up after 2005. With the poverty level rising about 25% and jobs becoming scarce, many people began finding it harder to provide for the basic necessities for their families.

Bread of Life began around 2007 with a handful of individuals wanting to make a difference in the Fort Payne/DeKalb area by providing a meal for those in need. The first meal began with a sandwich, apples and a few chips. Once word began to spread, many of those in need began to gather for food and new faces to meet. Since then we have continued to be a place that provides help with much of our assistance coming from local volunteers, businesses and ministry organizations.

Since 2007 Bread of Life has branched out into more areas of need within our community. While we currently provide meals three days a week, we have now opened up a warming station during extreme winter nights, a food pantry, a clothes closet and provide benevolence funding for extreme needs. We don't want to stop there either.

Our vision for Bread of Life is to not only impact those in need by equipping them to succeed in financial stability and community involvement, but to also facilitate a giving atmosphere on a community-wide scale that encourages others to be involved spiritually and personally in the betterment of others. To bring this vision into fruition, we purchased a large facility to house not only our current ministries, but to also provide an area for:

-Transitional housing to assist individuals/families in developing financial stability/independence in their lives.

-A center for job training and placement in order to enable individuals needing work which will in turn increase local revenue for community growth.

-A safe social atmosphere for youth, families as well as the elderly.

-And access to several aid programs as well as spiritual resources for those in need.

We are currently remodeling the new building and getting it ready for fulltime usage. This is such a huge undertaking but also one that is desperately needed within our community. Those whom it has helped to this date are so thankful for the many people that have sacrificed time and resources for their needs. Many of those in need have turned around and began helping out in return. God has brought us a long way, but we have a lot to do before we are ready to open the doors on the new facility.

Many of those who volunteer serving the soup kitchen have also helped in the construction efforts. But We have a lot of work inside to take care of. New sheet rock walls have been installed as well as a lot of the flooring completed. Our current tasks at hand are:

-Repairing the roof.

-Installing a new drop ceiling.

-Rewiring the entire facility.

-Transforming the downstairs of the facility into transitional housing.

-Installing a Handicap accessible ramp.

It will be the only facility of its kind here in Fort Payne and this is where we need your help. Your funding will go towards the completion of the facility as well as ensuring that it is operational for the next two years. We are so excited about this community project and know with your help it will touch many lives. This is only the beginning...

From all of the us at Bread of Life, we thank you for taking a moment to learn more about this new venture. Every little bit helps so never feel as though your gift isn't much. If you would like to help in other ways we would still love to speak with you. Please Contact Us via our website.
