Delaney’s Thailand Journey to Learn

Donation protected
Delaney Knappert Bennett may seem like she has it all – a brilliant academic record, a fairytale wedding, inner and outer beauty, and respect of her peers. However, Delaney's life has been touched by tragedy, as she has faced the loss of her beloved sister, Keegan to Melanoma. Instead of succumbing to grief, Delaney has devoted herself to supporting her family in the fight against the devastating disease.

Delaney doesn't believe in a handout; she's worked tirelessly to achieve her success. That's why asking for support is not something that comes naturally to her. But now, she feels an undeniable calling to make a life-changing journey to Thailand, one that aligns with her life's purpose. Remarkably, she discovered that one of the focuses of her study will be on Tropical Dermatology after she had already made the decision to go. It feels like destiny, and with your generosity, we can make it a reality.

The Thailand International Elective (TIE) was developed by the Utah Physician Assistant Program (UPAP). TIE is intended to help students who have an interest in global health broaden their knowledge of tropical diseases as well as poverty and its effect on health.

The month-long trip begins on Jan 2, 2024 and consists of visits to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Mae Sot. Delaney will have clinical rotations in inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, and the emergency room. She will spend time at a free clinic for displaced persons and around the Mae Tao Clinic, which provides healthcare, education, and protection for vulnerable and displaced people living in the Thai-Burma border area and east Burma.

Your contributions will cover the
trip fee and Delaney’s travel and living expenses while she's in Thailand. Paula will be accompanying her to get her settled in and returning home once the program starts. Funds raised will not apply toward Paula’s travel expenses. Your support is not only an investment in Delaney's future but also in the fight against Melanoma and the betterment of global health.
