Let’s help Delfi beat brain cancer!

This past July, Delfina’s family received heartbreaking news that would change the course of their lives forever: at only 7 years old, Delfi was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), an aggressive form of lethal childhood brain cancer.

Delfi was born in Argentina to loving parents who describe her as caring, positive, and extremely friendly to everyone she encounters. Her hobbies include dancing, make Tik Toks, and having fun with her friends, She loves to make people laugh, and she often talks about wanting to help those in need. 


About a month ago, Delfi’s parents noticed that her once bright-eyed smile and laughter were replaced by pain, dizziness, vomiting, headaches, and loss of balance. They quickly rushed her to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with a rapidly spreading brain tumor. And, just like that, everything in Delfi’s life came to screeching halt. 

She was deteriorating fast, and there were no hospitals in Argentina that could handle the severity of her case. Refusing to give up hope, her parents have finally located a facility in Houston, Texas that offers a very specialized treatment, which is Delfi’s only hope of survival. 

When we heard Delfi’s story, we instantly felt compelled to do everything in our power to ensure she gets the treatment she needs. We’ve put together this GoFundMe to spread awareness of Delfi’s dire prognosis and to raise money for the treatment she needs to save her life.

All the proceeds of this fundraiser will be going directly to Delfi’s family, to pay for:

- Travel costs to and from the USA
- Medical costs related to Delfi’s treatment
- Room & board costs for Delfi’s family
- Other costs associated with Delfi’s long journey to beat DIPG


What is DIPG?

DIPG is an aggressive form of childhood brain cancer. Tumors form at the brain stem, which is an integral part of the body that controls vision, motor skills, breathing, and more. The tumors grow quickly, amplifying the extremely painful symptoms in young children. Unfortunately, the survival rate for DIPG is incredibly slim without the proper treatment.

According to the St. Jude’s website, here are the most common symptoms of DIPG:

- Problems with balance and walking
- Problems with the eyes (including double vision, drooping eyelids, uncontrolled eye movements, blurred vision)
- Problems with chewing and swallowing
- Nausea and vomiting
- Morning headache or headache that gets better after the child vomits
- Facial weakness or drooping (usually one side)

En julio pasado, la familia de Delfina recibió noticias desgarradoras que cambiarían el curso de sus vidas para siempre: con solo 7 años, Delfi fue diagnosticada con glioma pontino intrínseco difuso (DIPG), una forma agresiva de cáncer cerebral infantil letal.


Delfi nació en Argentina de padres amorosos que la describen como cariñosa, positiva y extremadamente amigable con todos los que encuentra. Sus pasatiempos incluyen bailar, hacer Tik Toks y divertirse con sus amigos. Le encanta hacer reír a la gente y, a menudo, habla de querer ayudar a los necesitados.

Hace aproximadamente un mes, los padres de Delfi notaron que su risa y su sonrisa de ojos brillantes fueron reemplazados por dolor, mareos, vómitos, dolores de cabeza y pérdida del equilibrio. Rápidamente la llevaron al hospital, donde le diagnosticaron un tumor cerebral de rápida propagación. Y así, todo en la vida de Delfi se detuvo de golpe.

Se estaba deteriorando rápidamente y no había hospitales en Argentina que pudieran manejar la gravedad de su caso. Negándose a perder la esperanza, sus padres finalmente localizaron una instalación en Houston, Texas, que ofrece un tratamiento muy especializado, que es la única esperanza de supervivencia de Delfi.

Cuando escuchamos la historia de Delfi, instantáneamente nos sentimos obligados a hacer todo lo que esté a nuestro alcance para asegurarnos de que reciba el tratamiento que necesita. Hemos creado este GoFundMe para crear conciencia sobre el terrible pronóstico de Delfi y recaudar fondos para el tratamiento que necesita para salvar su vida.

¿Qué es DIPG?

DIPG es una forma agresiva de cáncer cerebral infantil. Los tumores crecen rápidamente, amplificando los síntomas extremadamente dolorosos en los niños pequeños. Desafortunadamente, la tasa de supervivencia de DIPG es increíblemente escasa sin el tratamiento adecuado.

Según el sitio web de St. Jude, estos son los síntomas más comunes de DIPG:

- Problemas con el equilibrio y la marcha.
- Problemas con los ojos (incluyendo visión doble, párpados caídos, movimientos oculares incontrolados, visión borrosa).
- Problemas para masticar y tragar.
- Náuseas y vómitos
- Dolor de cabeza matutino o dolor de cabeza que mejora después de que el niño vomita
- Debilidad facial o caída (generalmente de un lado)
