Buying songbooks for Delhi Sacred Harp
Donation protected
My name is Paul Zaba, and I'm a singer and musician from the UK. I founded Delhi Sacred Harp in November 2022. We are an informal, friendly group of people living in and around Delhi who sing shapenote music together.
Sacred Harp is traditional, acapella harmony singing from the United States. The songbook we sing from was first published in the 1840's.
Since November, our group has grown in numbers and skill, with our weekly singings attracting a mixture of people with Western-style choral experience, Hindustani classical vocalists, and untrained singers.
So far we've been using print-outs of songs. This has worked for now, but for the next stage we need to order 24 books from the Sacred Harp Publishing Company, Carrollton, Georgia.
Eighteen of these books (with small printing defects, to save on cost) will remain in use as loaners, while six new books will be available for purchase by singers within our group. This money will be ringfenced and used to purchase additional books when needed.
The total cost of this order will be $580 (defective books cost $130 for a case of six; new books cost $190 per case).
On July 2nd, we are hosting the first All-Day singing in India, inviting everyone from the international sacred harp community to join us in India's capital city. For this to be a success, we need enough books for everyone.
Please do chip in to support this group — no donation is too small!
