Delia and her family

Donation protected
Delia joined Daubeney Academy in February 2022 as a Year 8 student. Delia settled into school life and has made some really good friends in her time at Daubeney. In September 2023 Delia became unwell and was admitted to Addenbrookes hospital with a suspected kidney infection. After three weeks of tests Delia and her family received the news no family ever wants to hear, a 17 cm tumour had been found between Delia’s kidney and liver and was diagnosed as a form of cancer called Ewing Sarcoma. Delia and her family were told to prepare for the worst and it was unlikely Delia’s treatment would be successful. After a number of tests it was confirmed she had metastatic disease which means the cancer has spread to her bones.

Delia endured over 6 months of chemotherapy and most recently radiotherapy in an attempt to shrink the tumour behind her kidney. Delia has been so strong throughout her treatment, even when she has been feeling poorly, she was hopeful and was continuing to fight this awful disease.

The chemotherapy and radiotherapy had shrunk her tumour and at that point in time there was no further spread of the disease in her body. The family are unsure what the future holds for Delia, she is fighting hard and the family are by her side every step of the way.

Daubeney Academy wants to support the family to make memories with Delia during this difficult period of time and will be partaking in a series of fundraising events to raise awareness and to raise money for the family. The Senior Leadership Team will be climbing Mount Snowden at the end of April and the school will be holding a non-school uniform day at the end of this term in support of Delia and her family.

* It is with great sadness that we share that in the early hours of Monday morning Delia in year 9 lost her long battle with cancer. She died peacefully with her family by her side. Our thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends at this difficult time.

As a school we would like to help the family with the costs of getting Delia back home to Romania, any donations to support Delia getting home would be greatly appreciated.*
