Help Save Lives: Provide Free Supplemental Screening for 100 Women who have dense breasts and are High- Risk for Breast Cancer - $50,000 Goal!
At Operation Breast Density, we're on a mission to make a real difference in the lives of women facing high risk due to breast density. We believe every woman deserves access to life-saving screenings, regardless of their financial situation.
Who We Are:
We're a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (EIN# 88-398-4271) dedicated to empowering women with crucial information about their breast health. Our mission is simple: to prevent missed or delayed cancer diagnoses and ultimately reduce the mortality rates of breast cancer patients.
Why we were formed:
Our founder, Dr. Shoshana Hallowell, is not just a general and breast surgeon; she's also a breast cancer survivor. At 36, she faced her own battle with breast cancer. However, it was her sister's journey that truly opened her eyes to the challenges of imaging women with dense breasts.
Dr. Hallowell's sister experienced a delayed breast cancer diagnosis by six months due to her breast density. Despite not being risk-assessed or offered additional imaging for her dense breasts, she tirelessly advocated for herself until finally receiving a breast MRI. This MRI revealed a 2.3cm breast cancer missed by her mammogram just six months prior. Shockingly, this scenario is not uncommon, as mammograms alone can miss cancer diagnoses up to 50% of the time in women with dense breasts.
That's why Operation Breast Density is on a vital mission: to educate women about breast density, empower them to discover their own breast density, and equip them with the tools to advocate for the additional imaging necessary for comprehensive breast cancer screening. Join us in our mission to ensure no woman faces the same challenges alone.
The Challenge:
Did you know that 45% of women worldwide have dense breast tissue? Did you know that breast density increases a women’s risk of developing cancer significantly? For many of these women, traditional mammograms may not be enough to detect potential issues. In fact, a mammogram can miss a cancer diagnosis up to 50% of the time in these women. In addition, medical insurance often does not cover the additional imaging these women need to complete their breast cancer screening. That's why we're committed to providing 100 high-risk women and women with dense breasts with free Whole Breast Ultrasounds and/or Rapid/Fast MRI screenings as indicated by their risk assessments.
How You Can Help:
Your generous donation will directly fund these essential whole breast ultrasounds and Rapid/Fast MRI screenings, ensuring that women in need receive the care they deserve. No contribution is too small - every dollar counts!
The standard pricing for a whole breast ultrasound averages around $300 per patient, while a Rapid Breast MRI typically costs approximately $500.
Your Impact:
By supporting our campaign, you're not just donating money - you're helping to save lives! Your contribution will provide peace of mind for these women and their families, potentially catching breast cancer at an early, treatable stage.
