Our family has found it’s self in a difficult place and find the need to ask for help. Our mother is in her final days of life after being diagnosed with lung cancer on May 5th. She was admitted to a hospital 3 hours away the day she was diagnosed. She spent over a month in ICU on a ventilator and then several more weeks inpatient. She came home July 11th to spend her final days with her family. She suffered brain damage during the hospital stay and has required around the clock care. She has now started the medications that will keep her comfortable, and expect it will be very soon she departs this world.

All of this has has drained our entire family emotionally, physically and financially. It also depleted every bit of our parents savings. Our mother didn’t have life or burial insurance. We have been given an estimate of $10,000 for one of the cheapest burials and the cost has to be paid up front. We are desperate for help and are swallowing our pride to ask for it. I set it at $12,000 so we could put something towards a headstone, so any and all money will go to our father to pay these costs.

Who are mother was.
Born Delores Kee in 1955, she was a childhood polio survivor. But never let her disability get in her way. She married our father Nickoles Metz Sr on April 20, 1973. They celebrated their 50th anniversary just 16 days before their last real conversation. Her life was dedicated to her family being a stay at home mother and wife. Her 5 children and husband were her whole world. Later she played a huge part in 12 of her 14 grandchildren’s lives.

She had many other children through the years for whom she was “mom.” Anyone who needed a safe place to stay, a hot meal or just someone to love them. Found it in our home. She always gave anything extra she had to help others, and couldn’t walk by someone hungry without buying them some food. There was always room for anyone who was alone on Thanksgiving or Christmas at her table. She had a heart of gold and was the most dedicated and caring wife, mother and best friend.

She has been taken from us all to early. And hope some of the good she put out into the world can come back to help lay her to rest with her parents as was her final wishes.

Any help is greatly appreciated even if it is just sharing this or sending prayers.
