Delts Cycling

The 2023-2024 Delts Cycling team is coming off a great summer of riding and racing. Anthony Vicino (Beta Alpha '16) has kept us on track with individualized training to ensure that we all get the most out of our time in the saddle. After another heartbreaking finish last year, we had unlimited motivation to tap into. As far as recruiting goes, we have rush events next week to meet some new talent and find some guys that are ready to work hard and carry on the Delta Tau Delta Cycling legacy. Fall Series is coming up and we look forward to showing the work we’ve put in this summer. For us to perform to our highest abilities, we need your help. Delta Tau Delta’s success would be nowhere near what it has been without you.

It is well known that this program breeds success. Since 2009, Delts and JETBLACH have earned 12 top ten finishes, 7 podium finishes, and 3 championships. After five incredible years as JETBLACH, we were able to return as Delta Tau Delta and finish as the top Greek team in the race. Being back in the house with our brothers has already been a blast and we are excited to make all of our supporters proud on April 20th. We greatly appreciate the support we have received in the past and look forward to your continued patronage.

Fun Fact: I almost quit JETBLACH my freshman year

It seems like just last year I was a freshman getting dropped on my first forest loop. Getting to know everyone involved with this program has made college the most enjoyable years of my life. Without cycling and the relationships that I have made with my teammates, I'm not sure where I would be right now. After a pretty hard mental and physical burnout last winter, I was expecting this summer to be very low mileage but was surprised to find that I actually wanted to keep the training volume high and continue to get better. After the race, the realization hit that I am now a senior and this is my last year in school and my last Little 500. This has given me more motivation than ever for this coming year. I'm beyond excited to get to work alongside my teammates and brothers and to go out the same way I came in as a freshman, on a win.

Fun fact: My walkout song of choice is Shipping up to Boston

It is hard to believe that my first team ride and dinner was over two years ago. Since my first day on campus, I felt a sense of belonging unique to any community I had previously been a part of. Immediately, I felt the inclusive and supporting environment. Over these past few weeks, I have experienced this feeling once again in the form of hanging out with my brothers at the shelter. With two years of racing experience, I look forward to competing at my highest level but more importantly enjoying these unique bonds and friendships. I owe a great thanks to both the JETBLACH and Delts supporters and alumni that have provided me and my team this special opportunity to be a part of such a historic cycling program. These experiences would not be possible without all of your support.

After racing 30+ times at the velodrome this summer season, I am extremely excited for this 2023-2024 Little 500 race season. I have made very large strides and improvements in my riding this summer. Thanks to your support, I was able to gain a ton of race experience and even qualified for collegiate track nationals. This year we are bringing back a really strong squad and I am very proud to be a part of it. Every donation helps us get closer to our one goal, the fourth win!

Name: Jack Lloyd
Year: Junior
Hometown: Atlanta, GA
Major: Finance & Business Analytics
Fun Fact: I’ve been to all 50 states and 30 MLB ballparks.

This is my third year on the team. After 6 years of competitive running, I joined JETBLACH during the fall of my freshman year, and I’ve never looked back. I’ve been fortunate to train and live with these guys everyday. While I haven’t raced yet, I commit a lot of my time to training and racing. As newly named president of IU Cycling Club, I’ve been focusing the teams attention on racing on the road this upcoming spring. Personally, it’s where I have the seen the most growth. I’m thrilled to be back in the house and train in the best bike room on campus. I look forward to contributing to this program’s continued success on April 20th.

Name: Sean Simpson
Year: Senior
Hometown: Fishers, IN
Major: Exercise Science
Fun Fact: I’m a triplet, youngest out of the three.

After two years at IUPUI, I had a big burnout in school and in life. I needed a change and ultimately transferred to IU Bloomington. While at IUPUI, I found myself working with Luke Tormoehlen. He talked to me about his experience as a Delt, riding in Little 5 and how much it changed his life. Coming from a pretty exclusive running background, I didn’t expect to find myself biking. After going on rides with some of the guys on the team I knew that I wanted to be a part of JB and Delts cycling. Thank you to all welcoming me and I’m very excited for what this team will accomplish this year and many years into the future.

Fun Fact: I have no connection to the store Nordstrom

It’s hard to believe that it has been a full year since I joined this team, and I am already looking forward to the next one. I joined JETBLACH, soon to be Delts Cycling, at the beginning of last year. I can say with certainty that it was the right decision. It is so rewarding to be a part of something much larger than yourself and to participate in such a storied event like the Little 500. I am so privileged to be a part of this program, and to train, live, and make lifetime relationships with the guys on our bike team. Before I came to IU, I never could have imagined that I would be a part of Little 500 or Delta Tau Delta, and now I would not want it any other way. Additionally, we have the shelter back, are expanding the brotherhood, and are now training in the bike room, which makes Delts all the more special. With a year under my belt, I want to continue to build on my training, but also the relationships I have with my fellow brothers and teammates. We pour our hearts and souls into this team, and we are so thankful for all the support we have received; this team would not be what it is without donors and alumni. I am beyond excited to get after it this year and cement this program’s excellence with another win.

Name: Parker Miesch
Year: Sophomore
Hometown: Westfield, NJ
Major: Informatics
Fun Fact: I am the only ginger on the team (not very fun).

I am the only rider on the team who had no experience with any endurance activity before coming to IU, so Little 500 has opened a world of opportunity for me. In high school, I rock-climbed competitively, which does not have much carry-over into the world of cycling. I found Little 500 when I was looking to try something new, allowing me to push myself in a new way and introduce myself to a group of new people, whom I now call my best friends. It’s been great learning the ropes of cycling and finding my role on the team. I am excited to see where this year takes me.

Name: Jack Sterchi
Year: Freshman
Hometown: Carmel, IN
Major: Finance
Fun Fact: I can solve a Rubik’s cube.

7 months ago the only thing I knew about Little 500 was that it existed and I definitely wasn’t planning on doing it myself. Fast forward to today, joining Delts Cycling was one of my best decisions I have made here at Indiana University. Being apart of this team has lead to some of my closest friendships on campus. The experiences provided have also made my college experience twice the fun, whether it be the team cycling trips to other states, going to the lake, team dinners or just training in general. One of favorite parts of being on this team is getting to meet and hangout with the alumni. It’s very fun as they frequently come down to watch practice or races and share their experiences when they were on the team. I am excited for the 3 future years I have on this team.

Name: Zach Seidner
Year: Freshman
Hometown: Alpharetta, Georgia
Major: Marketing
Fun Fact: Me and Parker are not brothers

When I came to Indiana University, I was looking for a new way to continue to compete athletically. When I met the bike team at Delts fall rush, I had a new opportunity to continue my love for sports. At this moment in time, cycling was something that I never imagined myself doing. However, after a few short weeks I quickly began to love the sport. Fast forward to November, and I found myself in a crash that resulted in a broken elbow. The recovery process was rather lengthy, but my team helped me through the whole thing. Every small step of recovery was backed by my teammates, easing the process and continuing my enjoyment for the sport. Outside all the training and racing, I have established some of my closest friendships from this Delts team. I pretty much always find myself hanging out with my teammates on the weekends. The experiences I have shared with this team are those that I will remember and enjoy the rest of my life.
