Demanding Dignity For Women Incarcerated
Tax deductible
Hello, we're Alesia, Jerri, and Kristen from William Peace University and we are raising money for Dream Corps Organization and for our Women Studies class project. As part of a project for our Women Studies class at WPU, we are working to improve the care of women who have been incarcerated. This is especially important as the number of imprisoned women has grown by 700% over the last 30 years. As part of our project, we are raising money for Dream Corps, an organization that advocates for legislation to ensure that incarcerated women -- who have higher rates of childhood abuse and mental health challenges -- are not further traumatized by a penal system that was designed for men. Trauma-informed corrections would not require women to give birth in shackles and would protect them from invasive/harmful interactions with male corrections personnel. Equitable treatment would ensure that women are not disproportionately serving time in facilities that make it more difficult to stay connected to their families and children. Care with dignity would require facilities to provide inmates with feminine hygiene products, no longer expecting them to purchase items at exorbitant costs or go without.
Our hope is that by better addressing the needs of female inmates, we can increase the health and wellness of children, families, and communities everywhere. Any donation will help make an impact. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause which means so much to us.
