Dennis McClure's Legacy: Supporting Sawyer Memorial Park

Donation protected
Dennis McClure, 67, of Bennington, NH, passed away peacefully on Wed., December 18th, 2024, after a years-long battle with heart disease.

Among Dennis' well-known passion for hunting and fishing was his desire to keep the spirit of recreational softball alive in his community. With the help of his son Tyler and daughter-in-law Karen, Dennis established the Bennington Men's Softball League. Decades after he and his friends played softball together at Sawyer Memorial Park, he played alongside his son in the league he helped establish, right there on that same field.

Dennis selflessly volunteered hours alongside his friends and family to revive the ball field at Sawyer Memorial Park in Bennington, NH. His list of hopes and dreams for field improvements was endless, but at the top of his list was always an outfield fence. Dennis passionately advocated for the approval of the fence, attending countless town meetings and gaining the support of the community and town officials. Unfortunately, Dennis did not see an outfield fence come to Sawyer Memorial Park in his lifetime. With Dennis' passing, his family is dedicated to honoring his legacy by maintaining the Bennington Softball League and bringing his dream of an outfield fence to life.

During this time, in lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial contributions to help fund the Veterans Memorial Fence at Sawyer Memorial Park in honor of Dennis. All donations collected via GoFundMe and a savings account established at Bank of New Hampshire will be donated to the Bennington Recreation Department, specifically to aid in the construction of the fence Dennis dreamed of.
