Dennis's Road To Recovery

Donation protected
Dennis has had significant pain in his right foot and leg for nearly a decade. He worked like a mule through it never giving an inch.
A few years ago his family was able to reason with him and recommended him to undergo medical treatment, so he could maintain a normal healthy life, and stop trying to “tough it out.”

So, we planned and tried to prepare for a long road ahead. We planned for the road to recovery to be around 12 weeks with physical therapy. He underwent the surgery that was recommended, and at 10 weeks we discovered the bone fusion did not take or even begin to heal. He underwent a second more invasive surgery to remove more bone and pack the area with bone marrow from his femur and a metal plate to fuse the leg and ankle. We thought this was it.

Unfortunately, another 10 weeks went by and we found out that the graft again had not not even began to heal. Something that one of the best orthopedic surgeon’s in the PNW couldn’t wrap his head around.

He was given two options - try again or amputate.

This morning at 8 am he went into surgery to remove the right leg below the knee to remove the pain and to get back to a normal life. The past 6 months have been quite a challenge for our family and here is again a new challenge. Many of our friends and family have asked how to help. Family and friends are building him a wheelchair ramp for him to get around. Anyway to help ease this transition is so appreciated.

He expects nothing but is willing to give the shirt off his back. From his own words from a fb post before the surgery,

“I truly appreciate the honesty and loyalty of friends. Because of necrosis in my tibia Talus an fibula. My attempts at having a fusion is unsuccessfully failed for the second time and I have an infection in the graft sites now and will never be able try a fusion again successfully . I have been in a great amount pain and discomfort with my foot for about 6 years now. The last six months I have been in my home in my recliner with my foot elevated and done everything that my doctors have told me what to do. ya I’m stubborn and pig headed at times as I have always been and have always worked and payed my own way so being immobile was very challenging. And having to rely on my wife and my mother and a few loyal friends . So I have a choice and a chance for a good life without foot pain and be able to get to haul logs again. So I’ll be heading again uphill fighting all the way and adjusting my life without having a right foot and learn how to walk again with a prosthetic leg. Thanks again for your kindness and prayers. Loghard.”

A nice card, prayer, comment, or even a small donation won’t go unnoticed. All proceeds will go directly to him and Christy to help with any fuel costs back and forth the 3 hour drive they have to his doctor appointments.
