Denver Metro Area Artist COVID-19 Relief Fund
Donation protected
Taking inspiration from Ijeoma Oluo, who started the Seattle Artist Relief fund...
I have been a connector in Denver for over 23 years. I was born here. I love this town! I have deep roots in the Denver artistic community. I am a queer, disabled, leftist liberal, old punk rocker, widow, mother and artist who has been supported and encouraged by the Denver Arts community for as long as I can remember and now, with the help of several other amazing humans, it is my turn to help support them. We are creating this fund for that reason. We hope that you will join us by donating.
Artists are one of the largest segments of the Denver metro area population that make up our “gig economy.” They are the ones who will not be getting back pay or paid time off because of the COVID-19 pandemic that has and will continue to transform our economy negatively. Artists and performers do not get paid without doing the work or performing. If an event is canceled or postponed, they do not have an income. With the widespread cancellation of major events here in the Denver metro area these vulnerable folx are already suffering. Please consider donating to this fund.
Artists are asked to do work for free or exposure all the time. Artists already struggle to survive in this economy. Mental health struggles are extremely prevalent in the creative community. They do so much for us. Now is the time that we need to support them.
Denver area artists have transformed this city. When you walk around any area of town you will see the beauty these folx bring to our community. When you go to a show you are experiencing the hard work that they do out of the love for you to enjoy. Please consider donating to this fund so that these beautiful, delicate people can cover their basic daily expenses.
Priority will be given to those artists who are part of historically marginalized groups because of the intersectional economic realities they face already. This is being organized by individuals that are not profiting off of this. Multiple people will be reviewing each application. If this fund becomes too large to manage alone there will be an admin fee assessed.
We have paused the application process while we wait for more donations. Please continue to check back. We are doing all we can to support our creative community. Please use the support systems already in place here while we wait for funds.
Special thanks to Marnie Ward, Kia Ruiz, Quana Madison, Molina Speaks and my amazing partner Andrew Novick for helping me to support our community! You are an amazing team!!
