Derby's Surgery Fund

I first met Derby when she came into my clinic with her foster to have two lumps checked out. She was at an adoption event when they noticed the lumps, so they pulled her from the event and brought her to us.
The first time I saw her, I loved her. She’s from Kentucky; her name is Derby. But it was so much more than that. Her heart is so pure and loving. She loves everyone that she meets. Everyone that she meets loves her.
Not much is known about her history. She’s about 10 years old. She came from a shelter in Bowling Green, KY. In New York, she was living with a foster who loved and cared for her like she was her own.
We decided to do biopsies of her lumps, and one came back as a malignant tumor called a sarcoma. These are locally aggressive tumors that are fatal if they’re not removed.
After spending more time with Derby, I knew I needed her in my life. And so I put the wheels in motion to adopt her, and now she is mine!
I never knew that I could love her as much as I already do. I’ve only had her for a week, but I’m determined to make however many years she has left the most joyful and wonderful of her life. She has already changed my life so much for the better that I can never repay her. But I want to do everything I can to ensure that her life is long and without fear or pain.
I took her to an oncologist to see what the prognosis was for her sarcoma. They examined her and looked at her lab results, and said that if she has surgery to remove her masses, then she could go on to live a happy and cancer-free life.
The surgery is going to be about $5000, all together.
I’m not great at asking for help, but I know that many people in my life love animals and might be able to contribute a little bit towards her surgery.
So here I am, asking for folks to give a little bit if they can to help!
I’ll keep everyone updated as things go forward! Thank you all for your support and encouragement and for being in my and Derby’s life!!
