Derecho disaster relief volunteer services from the Iowa Rapid Response Team of Christian Aid Ministries.
It all started years ago when I did some work at my cousin Jenny's house and upon completion she tried to pay me for the job and I refused the payment
It wasn't easy but I made my escape unfortunately my Uncle Ernie who's more like a father figure tracked me down and insisted he pay me for the work I did ant my cousins I said no as I could never repay him for all he has done for me in my life and for many others as well he said well if your not going to take payment how about a Gift, My Uncle Ernie had an old fishing boat that he wasn't using and it just sat in the barn collecting dust.
Well since I'm person that loves to fish I agreed and accepted the boat. I had many years of fun with that boat.
Eventually things changed though it sat in my garage and collected dust and wasn't being used as much so I put an add on craigslist and the first response was a 19 year old young man from Kalona, Iowa named Myron it was going to be his first boat purchase and I could tell he was excited we discussed things I needed to do before he picked it up the following day. Myron arrived the next day and he handed me the money and he said he had something extra for me it was a gift card that looked like a lottery ticket or a scratch off and it said The Prize on one side and scripture from the Bible on the other that shared about God and his Son Jesus Christ and the gift of Salvation I immediately new what it was and I got choked up pretty bad. For a young man to make sure before he left with the boat that I could have the gift of Salvation and to share Gods promises absolutely melted my heart to the point of tears. I told him I knew Gods gift and was for certain I was going to heaven Myron Smiled Before I waved him good bye. I said keep in touch it you have any questions about the boat and to also please send me pictures of your use of the boat.
A few weeks later he sent pictures using the boat on the lake fishing and enjoying the boat.
Fast forward months later... August 10th, 2020 to be exact a Derecho storm hit my state of Iowa and devastated a big section of Iowa especially the hardest hit linn county and the city of Cedar Rapids.
Later that night I got a text from Myron the young man from Kalona, Iowa I sold the boat to he asked me if my family was ok?
I said we were ok but my neighborhood was hit very hard and I sent him pictures of my place and the surrounding areas. As I was texting Myron his brother in law Tyler called and said that he was going to do volunteer disaster relief for the Iowa Rapid Response Team of Christian Aid Ministries and Myron let him know about my situation and he texted me back to let me know that Tyler was coming with a bunch of people with heavy equipment and all the necessary tools to help out cleaning up the mess for free.
The Iowa Rapid Response Team of Christian Aid Ministries showed up that morning early and I told him about the area and the neighbors in need.
It was a Blessing from God to have this kind of love and help in my neighborhood and it all started with a boat.
After talking with Tyler and finding out that a man named Randall who usually runs the Iowa Rapid Response Team of Christian Aid Ministries went on vacation just before the storm hit and that he would be gone, and that made Tyler in charge of Christian Aid Ministries Iowa Team for the first time running it and organizing at the Derecho disaster.
That just meant once again that God Orchestrated this entire situation.
Later that first day of clean up. I saw Myron and asked him to come inside my home and he sat down and I showed him THE GIFT CARD he presented to me when purchasing the boat. I said do you remember this? He smiled and said why yes I do, I told him how much it meant to me to share Gods promises and the courage it takes to be a fisherman of men to make sure I knew Gods gift before he left that day and I had also kept the money that was in the original envelope and handed it back to Myron and I knew then why God had stopped me from giving it back the first day I met Myron.
Because You see God has perfect timing with my life and always has, he guides and directs us all. I told Myron Thank you for everything and encouraged him to keep being a fisherman of men and to share that gift card of Gods promises to someone else and see what God Plans next.
Myron then told me had a story, that he and his sister usually pray together regularly and he realized that they had not prayed yet before taking out the boat one day and Myron said his Sister said I she did pray, while he was getting the boat ready ,she prayed that the boat would bring Myron blessings that would Favor God
And I truly believe that has come full circle. My neighborhood has changed over a Young Mennonite man named Myron from Kalona,Iowa
Who showed me and my community what Gods Love Is and brought Christian Aid Ministries to my hometown to provide a free service while serving God. It was a miracle for many in my city.
Thank you to all the Mennonite and Amish people that helped us all out.
To my Uncle Ernie for always helping me and many others my whole life and thank you for The Boat it changed my heart and my life and my community.
