Derek Mason - World Record Attempt - Masters 80+
Donation protected
Derek Mason (80yrs and living with Parkinson’s Disease) intends to break the current Powerlifting World Record. This has been a target and goal he has trained for now for over 3 years. Sounds amazing? What is incredible is that Derek has lived with Parkinson's Disease for 12 years now and if asked, he would tell you that, "living with Parkinson's disease is a full-time job as exercise is the only prescription that really makes a difference in the long run".
This will be Derek’s only chance on Australian soil to break the record this year. Traveling internationally with Parkinson’s is hugely draining on the body, especially at 80.
Derek and his trainer need to be in Cairns for the competitions beginning May 25th & June 1st, 2019.
Your support would make a world of difference to this humble Hero who is an inspiration to us all. Not only does Derek train and focus on his physical well-being, you will often see him volunteering at his loved Parkinson’s support group and other community events. Derek is a remarkably selfless man who believes in community.
In his personal life, Derek’s wife also is recovering from a serious illness. Just to be able to get to compete in Cairns is a remarkable feat in itself so rallying around Derek and making his travel and accommodation costs manageable would provide a remarkable show of support and encouragement to this champion of a man.
These funds are needed as soon as possible to ensure payment for flights, accommodation and expenses for both Derek and his volunteer trainer to commit to this incredible opportunity.
Thank you for your donation, any funds raised above the actual costs required will be donated to encourage those with Parkinson’s Disease.
*Please Share this story on your favourite social media platform, Parkinson's is an International disease, and Derek would love his achievement and passion to live to inspire others to do the same. Better yet, he challenges you to break his records.
A triumphant man takes stock! He has broken the National Powerlifting Bench Press record at the age of 79!
