Derek Moreland

On Tuesday, August 3rd, my 6 month old nephew Derek was taken to the doctor for an unusual cough that his parents wanted to get looked at. The doctor’s visit quickly took an unexpected turn when x-rays showed a large mass near his right lung. Due to his condition and further testing that was needed, Derek was emergency flighted to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth on Wednesday, August 4th. 

At this time, it is still unknown  what the large mass is and the exact plan to treat it. Derek is currently fighting pneumonia, anemia, an iron deficiency and have discovered he has an autoimmune disorder (still in the process of determining the specifics of this diagnosis). His parents, Motie and Brandon, have been told to expect to be at Cook’s for a minimum of two weeks with possibility of surgery once infection is gone. 

Due to the unexpected situation along with not knowing how long it may take before Derek is able to come home has already added stress onto the family. 

If you know my brother Brandon, help is something that he does not like asking for. But I know that no family should have to worry about paying bills while their child is having to seek medical care, especially so far from home. If you are able to donate, this will assist Brandon and Motie with traveling back and forth from Fort Worth, helping with monthly expenses and assisting with the accruing hospital bills.
