With a heavy heart and soul, Derek, my dad and shadow passed away in a tragic car accident on Saturday, November 24th.
I can’t begin to tell you all the layers my dad was made up of. Yes, he had his challenges, but above all he was a wonderful father, son, brother and friend. Most of his friends knew him as Big or Dee and will remember his smile and fun-loving attitude. You read about tragic accidents every day, but never seem to realize that one day you too could get that phone call. I feel like I’m having a nightmare; however, as we start the planning of his funeral arrangements, reality sets in. How quickly the shades of life change, just over a week ago we were celebrating my birthday in Jamaica and now, I have to try to find the energy to celebrate my dad, as I say goodbye.
As we try to navigate the costs of planning a funeral so suddenly, we are overwhelmed with the financial responsibilities. Many of you have asked how to help, so we thought the biggest help and contribution to my family would be to help assist us in the funeral expenses. As we plan my dad’s final goodbye, me, my brothers and family would like to say thank you for your help and prayers. Once the funeral arrangements are made, we will be sure to update this site with the information.
