Derrick Houston Jr

Hi, my name is Derrick Houston. I am fundraising for funeral and memorial expenses for my firstborn son who I lost tragically on April 20, 2023. On his way to school that morning, Derrick Jr. became a victim of gun violence while awaiting the school bus. Derrick had no enemies nor was he in any trouble so this situation has not only caused my family and I major grief but also comes as a tragic surprise.

Derrick Jr. was the oldest of his siblings and took great pride in being a big brother. He had dreams of becoming a mechanic and spent much of his free time fixing and learning about cars. Derrick planned to graduate high school and then go to trade school to become a certified mechanic with the dream of becoming an entrepreneur and opening up a car repair shop.

Derrick Jr. was only 15 years old at the time of his passing. He had so much life to live, so many big dreams, and so much love and care for his family that I truly feel like he was cheated. He deserved so much more, he should've been allowed to live his life fully and fulfill his dreams and it breaks my heart as his father that he will never have that opportunity.

Each day for me is a struggle. I find myself trying to stay strong for others but truthfully I feel weak. I didn't just lose a child, I lost my firstborn, my namesake. My only wish is to give Derrick Jr. the farewell he deserves. My family and I are faced with unexpected medical and funeral expenses we can not afford as Derrick Jr. was only 15 years old.
