Derrick's Med Flight Costs

Dear Family, Friends, and Community,

We are reaching out to you with heavy hearts and hopeful spirits as we share the story of our beloved husband, father, brother, and friend who is fighting for his life.

Derrick, also known Ricky and Ochro by his loved ones, has always lived life to the fullest. Unfortunately, while vacationing with his family in Las Vegas suffered a devastating brain aneurysm. This unexpected turn has left us all reeling, as we watched him bravely battle for his life in the hospital.

Ricky is still in the neuro intensive care unit. If he meets certain requirements, his care team says he will be able to transition from the ICU to medical, and ultimately inpatient rehabilitation care. As he continues on his healing journey, we are faced with the daunting challenge of bringing him home. Given his warranted extensive care; we discussed having him initiate the next level of care in Massachusetts.

Now as he continues on his healing journey, we are faced with the daunting challenge of bringing him home. Due to the fragile nature of his condition, we cannot travel by traditional means. Ricky needs to be medically evacuated to Massachusetts, where we reside and where world-class medical institutions stand by, ready to provide him with the specialized care and attention he needs.

However, the cost of medical evacuation is staggering, and we find ourselves grappling with financial strain in addition to the emotional turmoil of this situation. He can only fly on a medical flight with all of the medical equipment to support him safely. Even if he was to spend the upcoming proposed additional month in hospital at Las Vegas; he would still need to fly home in a pressurized medical plane, per his care team. That's why we are turning to you, our cherished community, for help. Your generous contributions will not only alleviate the financial burden but also provide us with the peace of mind knowing that we can give Ricky the best possible chance at recovery.

The price for the air transport on a Learjet aircraft for approximately 5 hours of flying, will be $54,990.00 US.  

This price includes the following:

- Dedicated air ambulance aircraft with a stretcher

- ACLS medical equipment on board

- 2-ALS medical personnel on board

- Critical Care Rn/RT & ALS Medic

- One passenger to accompany the patient

- The cost of ground transportation at each end.

Throughout his life, Ricky has been the rock, the confidant, and the best friend to so many, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear without hesitation. Together, we can rally around our dear friend, brother, father, and husband, showing him the same love and support he has always shown us.
