Raising Money for Des' England Immigration!
Donation protected
Hi! I'm Des, I'm a "formerly" disabled adult currently living in South Carolina. At the end of September I will be moving to Northern England to live with my fiancée Sophie and get married in March, starting the immigration process. Back in December 2023 I lost my "disability" status and all of my income, but it was almost a blessing in disguise because we found a very narrow window of opportunity to apply for my Fiancee VISA back in April before some laws went into affect that would have made it a lot more difficult for me to get my VISA so we went for it as quickly as possible with some financial (and moral support) help from our family.
However, going for it as quickly as possible means that I haven't had a lot of time to save up money, I didn't have any savings from disability as you're not allowed to have any, and I will not be able to work in England for a set period of time, up to a year. We will be able to live off of the money that Sophie makes (making sure of that was part of the application process), but it will be tight and I'd like some extra wiggle room if possible.
The original plan was going to be for me to sell the home that I have been living in for the last four years since my father passed away, but despite the fact that I have been the only person living here and paying land rent and taxes for four years– my dad never wrote a will and the probate process is holding it up in a legal gray area that I am afraid will not get resolved before I leave. If it is not resolved before I have to leave at the end of September, then the house will end up getting demolished instead when my landlord doesn't receive rent anymore. My goal for selling my home was $10,000– but if I can get even a quarter of that then I'd feel incredibly lucky and blessed.
Everything I own has already been packed into two suitcases, I'm either selling or donating the rest to thrift shops which means that I am giving up almost everything I own in America to make this move happen with basically just the clothes on my back and one trunk full of junk. It is a very scary and very stressful time right now, but I know that it is going to be worth it.
I also know that my family will be able to take care of me, they would not have encouraged us to apply and go down this road if they couldnt, but I do not want to feel like a financial burden on them– so being able to put some money away in savings or having something put away for emergencies would very much help me feel more secure.
Thank you for reading or donating, it truly means a lot.
