Design Against Domestic Violence Honoring April

Hi, my name is Pam Cooper, anyone who knows me well understands that my family is the most important thing in my life. My baby sister April Duncza who was a ray of sunshine and kindness to anyone who met her, was killed in an act of domestic violence in Late November. My family and I are beyond numb with grief and sadness. April was a 39-year-old recovering alcoholic with 16 years of sobriety and was a beloved mentor and sponsor to many people in the AA community. April was a volunteer to many organizations that helped heal and empower women. Her passion for helping others was contagious. She was a positive, smiling woman who loved her cats, valued her friendships and dressed like every day was a celebration of life!

To honor April’s memory and kindness to others I’ll be donating my time and design services to a wonderful organization called The Good News Home for Women. This is an alcohol and drug addiction treatment center for women located in Flemington, New Jersey. The program emphasizes a whole-person approach and teaches many life skills and foundational tools necessary to create long-term success.

I will be renovating the facility’s outdated communal living areas including the living and dining rooms. I was able to speak with the women who live here currently and was touched by their stories and desire to better their lives. I am excited to volunteer my time and efforts to help this organization in a way that will allow April’s spirit to live on. The project will entail us making some structural changes, flooring, lighting, new furniture, adding storage, and addressing additional issues as they arise.

If anyone would like to be part of this renovation by kindly donating whatever you are comfortable with, no donation is too small! 100% of the money raised will go towards the renovations. If there is any surplus, I will be looking to assist with renovations of bedrooms and bathrooms within the facility.
