Mutual Aid: Survival Funds & Respite Dog Care

After over a year of homelessness during the pandemic, surviving a violent anti-Asian hate crime, finally finding work and then suffering job loss again due to layoffs (as well as medical coverage), all while coping with ongoing autoimmune illness, our dear friend Désirée is seeking mutual aid in a time of crisis. She is a queer woman in her 30s and has no family safety net due to the toxic and racist environment she was adopted into as a child. While a circle of close friends is currently trying to support her efforts to get essential medical care and maintain her housing, we are few in number and all long-distance so she remains very isolated. She needs her larger community's help to keep her housed and get her well.

Her two adopted shelter dogs provide essential emotional support and are her only family, but she needs to secure temporary care for them in order to seek more comprehensive mental health support and get back on her feet.

She is a caring friend, a talented creative writer, and kicks a** when not dragged down by depression, housing insecurity and job loss! The requested amount of mutual aid funds would cover 4 months of basic expenses so she can focus on recovery.

All funds received will be used for: rent; dog care; food and other basic needs; mental health care and therapy. Anything you can give will help pull her through this very difficult time. Thank you for your support.
