Desperate Plea to Help Haitian Family
Donation protected
Almost 11 years ago, we were blessed to adopt our son, Wensley, from Haiti. Wensley has an older brother who is married with 2 kids. A boy who is 7 years old and a daughter, who is only a few months old. Wensley also has an older sister who is 23 years old. Now, our hearts are heavy knowing Wensley's brother Christopher, sister-in-law, young niece, young nephew, and sister are trapped in the unrelenting violence and turmoil gripping Port-au-Prince.
The sobering news from Haiti reads like a warzone. Turf wars between heavily armed gangs have crippled the capital city through rampant kidnappings, killings, and blockades restricting essential supplies. Civilians are caught in the crossfire as humanitarian aid is blocked and hospitals run out of fuel and supplies.
Tragically, Christopher was an innocent bystander struck by the gang violence. He was shot in the leg by gang members and required surgery. Now, as he recovers, he must navigate the perilous streets on crutches - an extraordinarily difficult feat amidst the constant threat of upheaval. His unfortunate incident underscores just how dangerous the situation in Port-au-Prince has become for the family.
Wensley's family is one of thousands facing this nightmare daily, forced into hiding and venturing out only when absolutely necessary for food and water. The constant gunfire and fear of being caught in gang crossfire or taken hostage is unimaginable trauma.
This is not the Haiti we want for our family members. Our family continues to do all we can to support them. Now, with little means to leave amidst the chaos, their only hope is evacuation to a safer region. However, the cost of arranging temporary relocation, housing, food, and basics is beyond their means.
That is why we are raising $5,000 through this GoFundMe campaign. These funds will cover the necessary logistics and expenses to extract Wensleys brother, his wife and children (Wensley's niece and nephew), and Wensley's sister from the violence in Port-au-Prince. We are working with an organization that can help relocate them safely to a different part of Haiti.
Please donate whatever you can to save this Haitian family trapped in turmoil through no fault of their own. They have endured unimaginable trauma simply from living in the wrong place at the wrong time. Your generosity could save lives.
No donation is too small. From our family to yours, thank you for your compassion during this crisis. We must be heroes for those we cannot immediately rescue.
