Desperate situation at shelter in Ukraine

We are raising funds to urgently treat and save the lives of over 500 dogs resident in shelter in central Ukraine. In assisting with evacuation from red zones, distemper has been introduced and is spreading rapidly. Distemper is a highly contagious and deadly disease which affects the respiratory system and central nervous system.

Sadly, already over 100 dogs are sick.

With no adequate local veterinary care and the bare minimum of resources, the situation is dire.  
 
Funds are needed to purchase vaccines, tests, medication to treat animals already infected, and supplies to prevent cross contamination. Additional labor also is needed to support animals in the shelter.

In addition to funds, we are also seeking assistance from a vet and a small team of experienced workers to help on location to quarantine and treatment.

 

Items to be purchased with funds

• Vaccines to prevent the further spread of distemper

• Disinfectant to prevent cross contamination

• Tests to identify and enable effective quarantine of infested dogs

• The following medications to build immunity and/or treat dogs with distemper
- Vitamin C (injectable) and Vitamin A
- Milgamma
- Doxycycline antibiotics
- Ribavirin
- IV fluids

My name is Evelien Jaspers, I have been involved with animal rescue coordination in Ukraine since early March, helping several international rescue teams evacuate animals from Ukraine during the crisis of the war. I'm a moderator of the Ukraine Animal Rescue Information Facebook group where this fundraiser will be shared, in hopes to reach our goal as soon as possible.
