Destiny’s Journey Healing Breast Cancer

Donation protected

On September 20, 2022 one of my dearest and best friends, Destiny (Carrasco) Lloyd (37) was diagnosed with stage IIIC breast cancer. This devastating news came as a complete shock and her world felt like it had suddenly been turned upside down. Her initial thoughts, “I have small children and I have to be here for them.” She immediately made drastic changes in her lifestyle, focusing on health and wellness, eating healthily (her husband became the vegan chef that he never knew he was), exercising, prayer and more prayer. She very quickly began chemotherapy.

Destiny has a kindness that is unparalleled and she truly has a heart of gold. The norm for Destiny is to go above and beyond to help others, simply because she genuinely cares about people. Destiny is a private and very self-reliant person and she has struggled with sharing this news and allowing others to help her when she needs it the most.

Treatments and surgery have been difficult at times, causing both Destiny and Brian to miss a lot of work. Destiny worked through chemotherapy, taking time off for appointments and on days that she just didn’t have it in her or couldn’t get out of bed. Brian, her devoted and loving husband commutes over an hour each way to work every day and manages to take care of the household while Destiny cannot. His primary goal in life has been to make sure that his wife is taken care of: fixing her meals, juicing her juice, taking her to every doctor appointment, getting the kids to and from practice, all while managing to make it to work as many days as possible.

Radiation is the next step. Destiny has an inoperable mammary node that will require radiation. They are concerned because it is very close to her heart so she will have to travel out of the area for six weeks of specialized radiation treatment. There have been some recent complications, landing her in the ER, delaying radiation but God willing, she will be scheduled soon.

In addition to completing her current treatment plan, Destiny is praying that it will be possible for her to travel out of state for some alternative type treatments as well. This, again, will require more time off work, travel expenses and costly medical care not covered by her current health plan.

Even the most financially responsible people soon learn how quickly an unexpected change in life can cost you your life savings and cause an overwhelming feeling of financial burden.

As difficult as this journey has been, Destiny’s faith and walk with God have only grown stronger. She knows that He is the ultimate healer, and she will be healed in Jesus’ name.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

On behalf of Destiny and her family, I am asking for your help to ease the financial weight of her healing journey. As expenses are accumulating, any contribution will be a tremendous help with current and future expenses. I have no doubt in my mind that when Destiny is healed, she will pay it forward. She has shared many times how she looks forward to the day that she will share her story and support others who are in the same situation as she is now.

We understand that not everyone is able to help financially but we would be eternally grateful if you would keep Destiny and her family in your prayers.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
