Help for Aunt Mercedes

Our Titi Mercedes was found in her dilapidated home in Puerto Rico 3 weeks ago. She hadn't eaten or had anything to drink in 3 days and was in pain. She had been living by herself and has no family near (we all live mainland US). Two of us had to leave everything behind (jobs/family) to advocate for her health and living situation. Her house was devastated by hurricanes and earthquakes and her medical conditions have rendered her unable to care for herself. We were granted emergency custody so we could help her as she has nowhere to live and no one to care for her in Puerto Rico. She underwent total hip replacement of her left hip in Puerto Rico two weeks ago, but was not able to be placed in rehab there. Meanwhile we were working through legal and medical systems and after two weeks were successful in bringing her to Advent Health Tampa where she was admitted and will start the road to rehab. One of us had to resign our job to be able be her primary caregiver. We are seeking help as we are currently burdened with numerous travel, lodging, food, legal, and medical bills as we transition her to a nursing home with memory care in order to ensure a safe and healthy future for her.
