Detective Brian Holdaway’s family is in desperate need of assistance. Last Thursday, Brian Holdaway passed away unexpectedly while at work. Brian was on duty and performing his job when he collapsed and passed due to what is currently an unknown cause. In addition to the devastating loss of their husband, father and support—the family has been advised that under these conditions the death does not qualify as a “line of duty” death.
What this means is that his family is not entitled to immediate financial relief to help pay funeral expenses and bridge the gap in living expenses until his benefits kick in. Today, his wife was informed that she and her family will not have insurance coverage past Friday, February 10 and they will not receive his salary for at least 30-60 days—in addition they will be responsible for at least $16,000 in funeral expenses and COBRA insurance coverage will be around $1800 per month if they want to have health insurance. At this time, since a final cause of death has not been established they are unable to even begin the lengthy process of applying for benefits.
Brian was an amazing, giving person and a dedicated officer. He worked tirelessly to give every victim a voice and closure. During his 19 years as an officer his commitment and contribution to the communities he served was unmatched. The family is in need of monetary donations to meet living expenses until they can file for and recieve benefits. Any funds above what are needed by the family to pay expenses, medical costs and funeral costs will be donated to a charity in honor of Brian.
