Detroit Abloom Holistic Wellness Center
Please check out our update below! Thank you
Want to join us in making a difference? We're raising money for our Detroit Abloom flower farm to become an outdoor holistic wellness center. All the programs we plan to offer are designed to help improve the quality of life for people of all ages and backgrounds in our immediate and extended community.
Over the past five years, the 15 contiguous vacant lots we acquired in the middle of a residential neighborhood on the lower east side of Detroit, have become an urban oasis. Here we work with the community, including people with special needs, to develop healthy relationships with the natural world.
And now, partly due to the pandemic and the burgeoning interest in outdoor education, we are ready to take our project to the next level by offering programs that can help people heal their bodies, minds and spirits. Whereas our floral business and native plant sales create enough revenue to cover our ongoing operational expenses, this gofundme campaign aims to raise enough funds for the following capital improvement projects:
House Purchase ($39,000): We have an Option to Buy this house at 236 Ashland that includes three vacant lots, besides the one it is sitting on. The house and the vacant lots border our properties. This house will be demolished so that we can build a new structure that will eventually become a community center where we can hold classes and workshops. The three lots will enable us to expand our gardens and have one or two educational hoophouses.
Electricity ($5,000): Update - We have electricity.
After five years, we will finally have electricity for the pavilion, outdoor kitchen and for flood lamps to brighten the front lawn for evening events. The electricity will also be used for security purposes and to source the pump and lights for the water feature.
Water Feature ($6,000): Update - We have a water feature!
We are building a 800 sq ft pond with waterfalls. The pond will overflow into a steam and bog that will run next to the pavilion, which will be traversed with a 14-ft bridge. Because of the soothing soul-enriching affects of moving water, this water feature will be an integral aspect of our sanctuary gardens. Stocked only with native fish, crustacean and amphibians, these water feature will also serve as an educational miniature ecosystem.
Thank you in advance for your contribution to help us in these first stages of developing an outdoor wellness center. We believe that our communities can be remade from the ground up and by bringing out the best in one another. We hope you will join with us in this vision. With much love.
