Devastating North Queensland Floods

My name is Paul Tabone, a proud native of Ingham, Queensland, and a former Young Citizen of the Year of Ingham. Today, I am reaching out to you with a heavy heart as our beloved Far North Queensland faces one of its most devastating natural disasters in recent history. The funds raised through this campaign will be donated directly to local families in need, with the assistance of the local council and council members. This approach ensures that the funds are distributed effectively and reach those who need them most.

In the past few days, unprecedented monsoonal rains have unleashed catastrophic flooding across our region. In some areas, rainfall has surpassed 700mm, leading to life-threatening conditions and widespread evacuations. Tragically, we have already witnessed the loss of life.

The severity of this disaster is being compared to the catastrophic floods of 1967, which were among the worst in our state’s history. However, current reports suggest that the impact of the present floods may be even more profound, with water levels reaching unprecedented heights and affecting areas previously thought to be safe.

As a community, we have always stood together in times of adversity. Now, more than ever, we need your support to help those affected rebuild their lives. The funds raised through this campaign will be directed towards providing immediate relief—such as food, clothing, and shelter—to those displaced by the floods. Additionally, we aim to assist in the long-term recovery efforts, including rebuilding homes and restoring essential services.
