Dezi's Hip Dilemma

Hello, Everyone!

Many of you know my Mama, Lisa (AKA Dezi) but for those of you that don’t, let me tell you a little bit about her.

My Mama is one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet. She would give a stranger her last dollar if she knew there was a need, and she never asks for anything. (Which is why I am here because she would never...) She is non-confrontational, has a one of a kind spirit, an incredible sense of humor, and works really hard for the things she has. She has always been that way, though. She raised my sister and me as a single mother, and while we may not have had all the lavish things in life, we had all the essentials. She made that happen. (Thanks, Mama!)

Three years ago we learned that my mom (Dezi) had Degenerative Joint Disease and bone spurs in her hips. DJD is a type of arthritis that causes the cartilage in the hip joint to break down. Once the cartilage is gone, bone rubs bone inside that joint, and this is what causes bone spurs. When we discovered Mama's DJD, we learned that she would need a full hip replacement on the one side she was having issues with. She underwent surgery and the recovery took approximately two months. Fast forward to now, and she is experiencing the same problem on the opposite side of her hip, and now has to have a second hip replacement surgery. As Mama would say, "Good grief, Charlie Brown!"

If you know my mom, sister, or me, you know that work is something we have always done and will probably always do. My sister and I didn't develop our work ethic out of the blue, we learned from our Mama. For years now, my mom has been working in the service industry. She is truly great with her customers, loved by her staff, and takes great pride in her work and independence.

Currently, my mom has been experiencing such excruciating pain, that she has been missing a lot of work. The service industry can be hard on the body and requires long hours of standing. Imagine your bones rubbing together every time you took a step and you do nothing but walk for 4-6 hours at a time. Sounds painful right? That is what my mom is dealing with every day, and STILL, she shows up to her job because that is just who she is.

On April 11, 2023, Dezi will see her surgeon and will be scheduling her 2nd hip replacement procedure. While she has the insurance and funds to cover the surgery itself, she DOES NOT have the funds to make up for the lost wages that will incur over the two to three months of recovery time it will take for her to regain her momentum and return to work.

Soooo, I am humbly reaching out to you all for your help! Over the years, my Mama has extended her heart and kindness to countless others, but this time, she is the one that desperately needs the help. We are looking to raise $5,500 to cover all of my Mama's bills post-surgery. Rent, car payment, car insurance, utilities, health insurance, cell phone, etc... As I am sure we all know, when life events happen, it doesn't mean life stops. The bills will keep piling up, and without help, my Mama will lose everything she has worked so hard for, and I can't let that happen!

I am asking for the community's help to rally around a woman that really needs support right now. Donations of any amount are so greatly appreciated. I want to thank all of you in advance for your help, love, compassion, and support of my ultimate rock, my Mama.

Love and kindest regards,
Nicki
